Jonathan Sacks

Rabbi Jonathan Sacks has been Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth since 1991. Previously, he served as Principal of Jews' College and Rabbi of the Golders Green and Marble Arch synagogues, London. Rabbi Sacks studied philosophy at Cambridge, and earned a PhD at Oxford and King’s College London. He received rabbinic ordination from Jews' College and Yeshiva Etz Chaim. Rabbi Sacks has been a visiting professor at several universities and holds many honorary degrees, including Doctor of Divinity. He received the Jerusalem Prize in 1995 for his contribution to Diaspora Jewish life. Rabbi Sacks was knighted in 2005, and was appointed to the House of Lords in 2009. He is a frequent contributor to radio and television programs, and the author of numerous books of Jewish thought, many of which have been translated into Hebrew, French, Italian, Dutch, German, Portuguese and Korean.
